We're on the lookout for a driven, detail-oriented Orchard Manager to lead at our Thornton Orchard located in Central Hawke’s Bay. If you're an experienced horticulturist ready to lead with purpose and ambition, this is your chance to take the next step.

What you’ll be doing:

As the Orchard Manager, you’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional results across every aspect of orchard operations—ensuring company goals are met through smart, sustainable management of people, processes, and equipment. You’ll lead from the ground up, creating a safe and satisfying work environment where your team feels empowered to perform at their best. With a hands-on approach and a focus on continuous improvement, you’ll help shape a thriving orchard that reflects both excellence and care.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Drive orchard profitability by implementing effective husbandry practices and optimising crop performance using digital tools

• Maximise operational efficiency through smart staffing, timely fruit supply, and streamlined daily processes

• Manage budgets and expenditure by constructing annual plans, monitoring costs, and ensuring best buying practices

• Lead and motivate staff in alignment with HR policies, focusing on recruitment, training, and performance reviews

• Champion health and safety by enforcing protocols, facilitating training, and ensuring timely reporting of incidents

• Ensure clear communication across teams, including payroll coordination, toolbox meetings, and timely responses

• Maintain high customer standards by providing suitable equipment and ensuring staff are well-trained and directed

• Represent the orchard professionally at internal and industry events, while ensuring RSE accommodation meets compliance

What you’ll bring:

• Proven managerial experience in large-scale horticulture and orchard operations

• Confident leadership and supervisory abilities

• Strong knowledge of orchard technologies and systems

• Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills

• Familiarity with machine operation and maintenance

• Expertise in tree husbandry and people management

• Knowledge of pest control, disease management, and chemical use

• Basic skills in accounting, business, and financial operations

• A full, current driver’s licence

• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand and ability to pass pre-employment checks
